So, you need to find a Christian wedding song for your church wedding?
Where do you start? What should you look for?
Let me help you.
Some churches will unfortunately just give you a list with a handful of wedding songs and that’s it. You have to choose one of them.
Two considerations to simplify your search
But others will give you some flexibility. These two important things to look for will help you find a wedding song that works in a Christian church.
These suggestions are basically the same as what most churches will tell you in their policies (when they have any).
Appropriate for a Christian church wedding
First and foremost, your choice needs to be appropriate as a Christian wedding song – that means appropriate for use in a church. This gets overlooked way too often.
Here are other articles that can help you find a song appropriate for a church:
Appropriate for a wedding!
Second (and this is probably overlooked just as frequently as the first point), your song needs to be appropriate for a wedding!
Deep down, you probably understand this, but some couples lose sight of the true meaning of a wedding ceremony and end up having a much harder time than they should or end up with music that.
What you want might not be what you think
You might be tempted to use a tear-jerker because of the powerful emotions involved, but a tear-jerker isn’t what you want in a wedding.
A wedding is a celebration – a joyous occasion!
Some people have a tendency to cry, but these are tears of joy — not what you get with a tear-jerker.
Don’t confuse emotion with being appropriate for a wedding.
An example is the song “Time to Say Goodbye” which gets used now and then at weddings. Regardless of whether it’s a good song, saying goodbye has nothing to do with a wedding ceremony – it’s all about two people coming together as one. The music should reflect this.
This tip holds true even for ceremonies not held in a church.
Don’t lose sight of these
Take these two considerations to heart. Be sure your wedding song is appropriate for a church and that it expresses the right emotions for a joyful celebration and you’ll have truly wonderful and memorable music for your ceremony.
