What to Avoid In a Church Wedding SongWatch out for love songs in your church wedding!

Got your attention?

In the previous article, we discussed what to look for in a church wedding song. This time, we’ll look at what to avoid when you’re searching for church wedding songs.

This will help you in your quest to find the perfect song for your wedding ceremony and make the entire process smoother.

Not romantic love

We caution against songs that are overtly romantic or contain only vague mentions of “love” or “God”.

As discussed in the previous article, songs should be Christian in nature. Vague references to love or romance don’t focus on God’s love for us and instead place the focus on ourselves (which is not the point of a church wedding ceremony).

Romantic songs can be fine in a non-church wedding, which is completely different.

It’s not about entertainment either

Also, watch out for songs that seem to be more about entertainment rather than an expression of a specific concept.

This can be an issue because music in a church wedding is not about entertainment or showcasing your singer’s talents. Wedding songs should be about expressing our reaction to God’s love.

It’s often surprising to couples when they realize that love songs and entertainment-type songs aren’t what they should be searching for.

But then they realize that this actually makes their search so much easier. Where they were feeling like they were trying to jam a square peg into a round hole, it becomes easier for them when they realize that their impossible search was because they were looking for something that wouldn’t have fit!

What struggles have you had trying to find the perfect wedding song for your church wedding? How did you overcome it?
