Are You Following These Stress-Free Wedding Music Planning Steps? (Part 2)

A Wedding Music Checklist (Part 2)Don’t make your wedding ceremony planning more complicated than it ought to be! You may feel overwhelmed and intimidated by wedding music, but let Wedding Music Unveiled simplify it for you. You can do it. Really.

Let’s continue introducing the six phases of wedding ceremony music planning we discussed in part 1 of this article.

Phase 2: Initial Music Selection

Figure out what moods you want established by music at various points of the ceremony.

Start exploring possible music choices. As you come across music you really like, try matching it to parts of the ceremony.

You can turn here for help with music ideas and planning tips and even to post questions & comments.

Phase 3: Select Musicians

Find your primary musician—your organist, pianist, or whoever will play most of the ceremony’s music. Regardless of whether you’ll use a musician from your church or bring in someone else, this is an important detail to sort out early (you may even have taken care of this when you made your initial arrangements with the church)!

Once you have this musician lined up, you gain a resource to help you if you still need help selecting music.

Then find secondary musicians (vocalists, solo instrumentalists, etc.) you need or want.

Phase 4: Refine & Finalize Your Music

Make adjustments to your selections. Tweak your choices, shift music around, etc.

But don’t keep it all in your head—you’ve got enough to worry about.

Keep a “master” list of music you’ve settled on and keep it up-to-date (you can download such a sheet along with our wedding music planning checklist when you sign up for our email newsletter).

Phase 5: Coordinate & Monitor Progress

Keep your musicians informed as your plans develop. Check in with them to keep them up-to-date, work through any issues they have, answer their questions, make sure music is being learned and perhaps even get music suggestions from them (if you’re still looking for music).

If the musicians need to work or rehearse together, make sure this is happening.

Stay in contact with everyone involved to resolve issues and answer questions sooner rather than later!

Phase 6: Final Preparations

In the last weeks or even days prior to the wedding (get someone to help), it’s time to worry about the small, last-minute details and questions that come up. All the big issues should have long since been resolved.

Of course, this article only introduces the planning process. There are plenty of details that there isn’t room for here.

Look for other articles that expand on these topics and help you simplify your planning for a memorable wedding.
