There’s lots to do, but here’s how to keep it all straight
Up till now, you might not have been sure how to even get started. It’s true that there are many little things to be concerned about (as is the case with other parts of your wedding day planning).
Fortunately, ceremony music planning can be broken down into a series of phases, so that you need not worry about everything all at once. This approach breaks down your work into manageable chunks.
These phases will guide you through the planning process but are not intended to be a strictly-followed procedure. In other words, it’s meant to help simplify your planning, not complicate it by only allowing you to address something at a certain time. It’s OK to go back and forth occasionally between phases to help your plans come together.
The phases are:
- Initial Planning
- Initial Music Selection
- Getting Musicians
- Refine & Finalize Your Music
- Coordinate & Monitor Progress
- Final Preparations
Phase 1: Initial Planning
When you first start thinking about your ceremony, also start thinking about your music: Decisions made about your ceremony affect your music planning.
- Make your big decisions about the ceremony (where it will be, what you want to include in it, how big it will be, etc.).
- Have your first meeting with your church and learn about church guidelines for music.
- Figure out what the general character of your wedding ceremony, such as what musical instruments do you want to use.
I also suggest you figure out what’s most important to you so you can focus on those aspects.
Before moving to the next phase, figure out (roughly) how much music you’ll need before, during and after the ceremony.
Wrapping Up
In the next part of this article, we’ll discuss the remaining phases.
